GLOSSARY TERM
Zinc-Rich Coating
A coating that contains a high percentage of zinc dust, providing excellent corrosion resistance for steel surfaces.
INFO
What it is
A zinc-rich coating contains a high proportion of zinc dust. Applied to steel, it provides outstanding corrosion protection, acting as a barrier and sacrificing itself to protect the metal beneath.
Why it matters
For steel exposed to the elements, corrosion is the biggest threat. Zinc-rich coatings give galvanic protection, meaning the zinc corrodes in preference to the steel, dramatically extending the structure's life.
Where it is used on a project
Used as a primer or protective coat on structural steel, metalwork, and other steel surfaces exposed to weather and moisture.
How NECC approaches it
For steelwork that needs serious corrosion protection, we can specify and apply zinc-rich systems as part of a protective coating build, guarding the metal for the long term.
