GLOSSARY TERM
Pot Life
The time a mixed paint remains usable before it starts to cure or harden.
INFO
What it is
Pot life is the limited window of time during which a mixed multi-component coating remains workable, before the chemical reaction begins to harden it in the pot.
Why it matters
Once pot life is exceeded, the coating thickens and cures and can no longer be applied properly. Planning around it avoids waste and ensures the product is applied while it still performs correctly.
Where it is used on a project
A key consideration with epoxies, polyurethanes, and other two-pack systems, where only what can be used in time should be mixed.
How NECC approaches it
We mix multi-component coatings in workable quantities and apply them within their pot life, so the product cures correctly and material is not wasted.
