GLOSSARY TERM
Brush Marks
Visible streaks left on a surface after using a brush to apply paint.
INFO
What it is
Brush marks are the visible streaks and ridges left in a paint film by the bristles of a brush. They show up as fine lines across the surface once the paint has dried.
Why it matters
On visible surfaces, brush marks detract from the quality of the finish and can make even a good colour look unprofessional. A smooth, uniform surface is one of the main reasons clients choose spraying.
Where it is used on a project
A common issue on hand-painted joinery, metalwork, and large flat areas. They are most noticeable in gloss and satin finishes under raking light.
How NECC approaches it
By spraying rather than brushing, we lay coatings down evenly with no bristle contact, eliminating brush marks and delivering the flawless, uniform finish our work is known for.

FAQ's
What are brush marks?
They are the visible ridges and streaks left by brush bristles in a dried paint film, usually from hand application or paint that does not level well.
How are brush marks avoided?
Spray application. Spraying lays the paint down evenly with no bristle contact, which is why it gives a smoother, mark-free finish.
