GLOSSARY TERM
Blistering
The formation of bubbles or blisters in the paint film due to improper application or moisture.
INFO
What it is
Blistering is the formation of bubbles or raised blisters in a dried paint film. The coating lifts away from the surface in small pockets, breaking the smooth finish.
Why it matters
Blisters are both a cosmetic and a performance problem. Once the film lifts, it loses its bond and protection, and the area will continue to fail if the underlying cause is not dealt with.
Where it is used on a project
Often caused by moisture or solvent trapped beneath the film, painting in strong direct heat, or coating a damp or poorly prepared surface. Correct conditions and preparation prevent it.
How NECC approaches it
We prepare surfaces properly, check conditions before coating, and apply products as specified, which avoids the trapped moisture and poor adhesion that lead to blistering.
